Queen Letizia of Spain graced the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest 2024 with her presence, marking the beginning of her annual holiday in Mallorca. On Sunday night, she attended the festival’s closing gala at the La Misericordia cultural centre in Palma. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Masters of Cinema award to American actor Michael Douglas, a two-time Oscar winner known for his roles in “Wall Street” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” as well as his work as a producer. The award recognized Douglas’s remarkable contributions to the film industry and his long-standing affection for Mallorca.

The gala featured a glamorous red carpet event where notable figures such as singer C. Tangana, actress Georgina Amorós, and actor Eneko Sagardoy were seen. Upon her arrival, Queen Letizia was welcomed by key local officials, including Balearic Government President Marga Prohens and Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez. She also met with Douglas and festival director Jaume Ripoll before the ceremony commenced with a piano solo by musician James Rhodes.
Douglas, who has spent summers in Mallorca for over 35 years, expressed his deep connection to the island, citing its privacy and the warmth of its people. During his acceptance speech, he praised the festival’s organization and dedicated the award to everyone involved in cinema throughout his career. The evening concluded with the screening of Jonás Trueba’s film “Volveréis,” which was attended by the filmmaker and his leading actors.
