Five individuals have been charged in connection with the tragic death of actor Matthew Perry, who passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54. The charges, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, include accusations against two doctors, Perry’s live-in personal assistant, and a person referred to as “The Ketamine Queen.” According to the U.S. Attorney, these defendants are alleged to have provided Perry with ketamine in the final weeks of his life, ultimately leading to his untimely death. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Perry died due to the acute effects of ketamine, which led to his drowning in his home pool.

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada emphasized that the defendants exploited Perry’s well-known struggles with addiction, stating that they “took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues.” The charges highlight the darker side of Perry’s life, which he openly discussed in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. Perry revealed his long battle with substance abuse, which began in the late 1990s after he was prescribed Vicodin following a jet ski accident. His addiction eventually escalated, and Perry shared that at one point, he was consuming up to 55 pills a day.

In recent years, Perry had reportedly been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety, a treatment that has gained popularity. However, the circumstances surrounding his death raise serious questions about the care he received. The DEA and other federal agencies are deeply involved in the ongoing investigation, aiming to hold those responsible accountable.
Perry’s death sent shockwaves through Hollywood, particularly among his Friends co-stars, who described themselves as “utterly devastated” by the loss of their beloved colleague and friend.
