DCIS is a type of breast cancer where abnormal cells are found in the ducts of the breast but have not yet invaded surrounding tissue. According to Breastcancer.org, DCIS is often considered the earliest form of breast cancer, and while it is not immediately life-threatening, it does increase the risk of developing invasive cancer in the future. Fishel revealed that she has been diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion, requiring surgical intervention followed by follow-up treatment.
In her podcast, Fishel expressed a positive outlook on her situation, emphasizing that she is optimistic about her recovery. She credited her early diagnosis to prompt action, having scheduled her mammogram appointment as soon as she received the reminder. Fishel also shared that she initially planned to keep her diagnosis private but was inspired by author Glennon Doyle’s perspective on sharing one’s journey during challenging times.
