The news was announced by his agency, SM Entertainment, which released a statement on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The agency stated that after learning about the criminal case related to a sexual crime, they decided it was necessary for Taeil to step down from his role in NCT. The label emphasized the seriousness of the situation and noted that Taeil, 30, is cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.

The details of the alleged crime have not been disclosed by either SM Entertainment or the authorities. However, South Korean media has reported that the investigation is being conducted by the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul. The BBC attempted to contact the police for further comments but was unable to reach them. As of now, Taeil has not made any public statements regarding the allegations.
Taeil’s departure marks a significant moment for NCT, a globally successful boy band known for its unique structure and experimental music. NCT, short for Neo Culture Technology, debuted in 2016 and currently has over two dozen members divided into several subunits, including NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT U. Taeil was most recently active as a member of NCT 127, one of the group’s most prominent subunits.
